Should Boxing be banned?

Across the world, millions of people enjoy watching or even taking part in dangerous sports, such as mountain climbing, motor racing, mountain biking, and boxing. Boxing is considered by few people very dangerous sport which has to be banned. The sport is tough but, that is no reason to ban it.

Firstly, boxing is a sport through which self determination, strength, discipline and confidence can be built. The boxer should be determined to train every day to gain strength for his/her fights. Lack of determination could end their career. Following a strict daily routine brings discipline and as the boxers win their matches, confidence is built up.

It is argued that, there have been some instances in which boxers have been killed or suffered brain damage and it is not understood, by few people who want the sport banned, why violence and danger is so important in the sport. They wonder why boxers need to hit each other and risk serious injury in order for other people to enjoy this sport, but boxing is a big business. Companies, television stations, and sponsors spend large amounts of money on these sports, for making new products, advertising the sport and for the matches being held, instead of safer alternatives such as swimming or running.

If a fighter becomes successful in their career then this success will bring fame and money. There are still many boxers whose careers are over but still are remembered for who they were. These people are known in the boxing world as ‘Legends’, for instance Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Jack Dempsey and George Chuvalo. These fighters were also very well paid, so the beating they get in the ring has paid off. For example Mike Tyson was able to make 30 million dollars in one fight alone; making him one of the highest paid athletes in the world. Boxing is a well paid job and banning the sport will make a lot of athletes unemployed. Some boxers also give the money that they earn to charities such as Mayweather. He gives his money to help the hunger and homeless.

It is stated that, boxing is a short lived career and the fame and money comes to an end quickly, which I argue is true of all other professional sports. Many boxers start their professional career in their early twenties and mostly end by their late thirties. The boxers who do retire use their well earned money to start their next careers, like owning a new restaurant or just retire; they may have enough money to support themselves without a new job. This shows that even though that boxing is a short lived career, boxers can make a lot of money in a short period of time.

The sport boxing, is known popular worldwide, so if boxing were to be banned, it would most likely go ‘underground ‘which would cause more deaths and injuries without the medical support which is always present at every single boxing match. They are always ready with an ambulance to take the boxer to a nearby hospital if the boxer is severally injured. This could also be run my unscrupulous people for their own benefit. The sport may get even violent and it won’t be held in proper conditions for the fighter or the audience Although the matches would be illegal, it would still be continued because boxers do boxing because it’s there career and life

In conclusion, it is a good idea not to ban boxing as it is a sport that is recognized worldwide and may people make a good living out of the game. It also helps to make the person strong, confident and disciplined. Talented and dedicated boxers can go a very long way in this career to become very successful and famous. We cannot forget that boxing is a form of self-defense that can be taught to ordinary people as well.
